Whidbey Home-Raising has been awarded the first-ever grant from the Whidbey Affordable Housing Fund, held at the Whidbey Community Foundation (WCF). This funding will help offset increased construction costs associated with meeting Washington State’s new energy code, ensuring that the organization can continue its mission of providing permanently affordable housing for local workforce buyers.
This grant supports the construction of a below-market, deed-restricted home in Upper Langley, which will be sold at cost to a local working-class mother. The home is part of a broader effort to create sustainable, community-driven solutions to Whidbey Island’s housing crisis.
“Whidbey Home-Raising is building a below-market, permanently affordable home for a local workforce purchaser. The support of the Whidbey Community Foundation has been essential to our success, through their fiscal sponsorship, advice on fundraising strategies, and direct grant support through the Whidbey Affordable Housing Fund,” said Cary Peterson, Project Lead and Founder of Whidbey Home-Raising. “With the help of WCF and many community volunteers and donors, we are small, but mighty.
