Whidbey Climate Fund
Whidbey Climate ACTION was founded to promote community and sustainability in the fight against climate change. The group grew out of the work of the Langley City Council’s Climate Crisis Action Committee, a citizen’s board that advised and proposed projects for the council’s declared Climate Emergency (Resolution 818, June 2021). There is now a separate Climate Crisis Action Commission that works on climate policy for the city.
Whidbey Climate ACTION works with Whidbey Island neighbors, to promote, finance, and implement rapid, just, and measurable actions and advocacy that fully meet the scale and urgency of the climate crisis.

About the Fund
Whidbey Community Foundation partnered with Whidbey Climate ACTION to open the Whidbey Climate Fund. The Whidbey Climate Fund invests in local projects that reduce greenhouse gases and enhance sustainability. Like replacing fossil fuel use or preserving forest carbon sinks, projects aim to reduce our carbon footprint and make Whidbey more livable and sustainable for future generations.
How will the fund grow?
Donors who wish to reduce their carbon footprint can make a tax-deductible donation to the Whidbey Climate Fund which will invest in local projects. Whidbey Climate ACTION has provided a guide for valuing carbon emissions in everyday activities. More information can be found on their website.
All donations to the Whidbey Climate Fund held at WCF are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law. Whidbey Community Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit, EIN: 81-3860867. WCF accepts many forms of donations, including cash, check, credit card, IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions, appreciated securities, and real property.
How will projects be chosen for funding?
All grants distributed from the Whidbey Climate Fund must be approved by WCF’s Board of Directors. The Whidbey Climate Fund Advisory Committee formed in 2024 to develop guidelines for funding, review applications, and make recommendations to WCF’s Board of Directors. Whidbey Community Foundation (WCF) connects people who care to causes that matter. WCF was founded in 2016 by long-time local community leaders who understand Whidbey’s needs and strengths and who are committed to making the Foundation a gateway to more meaningful relationships between donors and local nonprofit organizations. WCF’s mission is to improve the quality of life on Whidbey Island by providing support for the nonprofit sector, assisting donors to build and preserve enduring assets for charitable purposes, and meeting community needs through financial awards. Since 2016, WCF has opened 35+ funds and made over 440 grants totaling over $2.54 million for various different causes.
